SQUARE FOCH | URBAN PARK

LILLE, FRANCE

During my time abroad in Lille, France, I used to walk everyday across a rather interesting canal and future project site. What was once a prominent strip of water that cut into the city had been filled and converted into a tree-filled patch of greenspace.

Two goals acted as a guide for the design: To reintroduce the historical and social context of the canal and to spark pedestrian interest in order to further development. The final design incorporates a shallow fountain that flows down its length, crossed by pedestrian and bike paths and lined with new retail space.
